DMM Caution: Always verify probe positions (COM, VΩ, mA, 10A) before each measurement. Wrong probe position can damage the meter.
Correct Measurement Procedures

(Voltage)Measuring Voltage

1
Set range higher than expected voltage
2
Connect probes in parallel with the component
3
Red (+) to positive terminal, Black (−) to negative (for DC)

(Current)Measuring Current

1
Break the circuit at the measurement point
2
Connect probes in series with the circuit (current flows through the meter)
3
Close the circuit and read the value
(Resistance) Measuring Resistance

Resistance Measurement Steps

1
Always de-energise the circuit first — never measure Ω with voltage present
2
Disconnect at least one lead of the component to avoid parallel paths skewing the reading
3
Start at a high Ω range, then step down until you get a readable value
4
Touch both probes across the component (polarity doesn't matter) and read
Analog: Perform Zero Ω adjustment every time you change range. Read right-to-left (the Ω scale is reversed compared to other scales).

Possible Readings & Meaning

Meaning
Component resistance value
(Short circuit)Short circuit
Open circuit — component is broken
Parallel path present — disconnect one lead
Continuity Test

What is )))?

Continuity mode checks whether two points are electrically connected. The meter beeps when resistance is below the threshold (typically <30–50 Ω) — use it to check broken wires, blown fuses, and switch contacts.

1
Set the meter to ))) (Continuity) mode
2
De-energise first — never test live circuits
3
Touch both probes to the two points under test
4
Beep = connected / Silence = open or broken

Common Use Cases

Expected result
Beep = wire OK
Beep = good / Silence = blown
Press switch, beep = switch works
ตรวจ PCB track ขาดCheck PCB trace บี๊ป = track ต่อBeep = trace intact
One-way beep = diode OK
Tip: Always touch the probes together first — if the meter beeps, the continuity mode is working correctly.
การอ่านค่า OL / OVER บน DMM Reading OL / OVER on a DMM

OL (Over Limit) or OVER means the measured value exceeds the selected range. The meter is not broken — you just need to switch to a higher range.

Action
Switch to higher range
Very high resistance or open circuit Try higher range, or component is open
Check probe placement and contact

When OL is dangerous:
If set to DCmA but probes are connected to a voltage source, the meter shows OL while simultaneously blowing the internal fuse or damaging the meter instantly.

Always verify probe positions before measuring.
Auto-Range DMM: Auto-range meters adjust automatically and won't show OL from a wrong range — but will still show OL if the value exceeds the meter's maximum.
